Jackson did not have the right temperament. His rashness made him unsuitable for the presidency. “[H]e is not fitted for the office” of president. Fellow Republicans attacked him seriously when he became a real threat politically; they thought that people would be “dazzled” by him. They thought that his accomplishments did not qualify him “for the various, difficult and complicated duties.”
